iFixit scored Apple's iPhone Duo 5 out of 10 for repairability in a teardown that GSMArena reported on 26 October 2026. A bend test by JerryRigEverything left the inner display unusable after three bends.
Teardown: repairability
GSMArena says the 5 out of 10 score puts the Duo well ahead of other foldables. Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold8 scored 4 out of 10 and the Z Fold7 scored 3 out of 10.
Most internal parts come out without deep disassembly. The cover screen lifts off with a suction cup and a pry tool. The dual batteries release through anodic delamination, which loosens the cells with a low-voltage supply such as a 9-volt battery.
Hinge findings
iFixit calls the hinge mechanism highly complicated. It appears to lock on some units, which matches early buyer reports of stiffness, popping sounds and permanent display damage.
One theory is that internal hinge parts fail to move and get stuck. An accordion-like flex cable that runs through the hinge may also play a part.
Bend test
Zack of JerryRigEverything packed the hinge with dust, sand and debris before bending the phone. Some debris stuck and stopped the phone from closing fully. The phone did not snap.
A permanent line appeared on the inner screen after the first bend and more lines after the second. After the third bend the inner display stopped responding, although it stayed on. GSMArena notes that debris may have contributed and that one test cannot confirm the cause.
iPhone Duo price in Pakistan
GSMArena puts an out-of-warranty inner screen repair without AppleCare+ at $999. The iPhone Duo page lists an estimated Pakistan price of Rs 744,999.
