FBR Allows Phone Tax in Instalments

FBR Circular No. 1 of 2026 lets individuals pay sales tax on imported phones in instalments through the PTA's DIRBS system.

Abdulrehman Tariq ·

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) now lets individuals pay sales tax on imported mobile phones in instalments, ProPakistani reported on 14 September 2026.

What the FBR circular says

FBR issued Circular No. 1 of 2026 on 11 September. It adds the instalment facility as a new provision in the Ninth Schedule of the Sales Tax Act, 1990, under the Finance Act, 2026.

The facility runs through the PTA's Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS).

Conditions and what is still open

All instalments must be paid before the end of the financial year in which the phone is imported. The full tax liability still has to be cleared within that year.

The report states that the PTA still needs to introduce a mechanism for instalment payments. It comes more than two months after the government first announced an instalment facility.

The circular gives no tax rates or instalment schedule.
