What the Redmi, Poco and Xiaomi names stand for

Each name covers a different part of the range. Plain Redmi phones are the budget base and Redmi Note adds the screen and camera upgrades. Poco runs alongside both, while the numbered Xiaomi phones and the Mix foldables sit at the top.

Plain Redmi is the budget floor of the range: a handful of models add AMOLED, and MediaTek powers most of the rest.

Redmi Note is where the screen and camera step up. Every current Redmi Note with a listed display has an AMOLED panel, and its main cameras reach 108 MP at the median.

Poco is the one name in this range with no dominant chipmaker: Snapdragon and MediaTek split close to even. AMOLED reaches three in five current models.

The numbered Xiaomi phones carry an AMOLED screen on every current model and mostly run Snapdragon chips. The Mix line holds Xiaomi's folding and flip phones.

What the word Note adds to a Redmi price

The word Note moves a Redmi up a level. No Redmi Note costs less than Rs 32,999, while plain Redmi phones start at Rs 17,999. Pro Plus is the next step, at Rs 139,999 or more for every Redmi Note Pro Plus. Above Rs 300,000, every Xiaomi is a numbered flagship or a Mix fold or flip.
